Once upon a time, there was a horse who, having a powerful and dangerous wolf as his enemy, lived in constant fear for his life. He became so desperate that it occurred to him to seek out a powerful ally. He therefore approached a man and offered him an alliance, pointing out that the wolf was also an enemy of humans. The man accepted the partnership immediately and offered to kill the wolf if his new partner would cooperate by making all his speed available to the man. The horse was willing, and allowed the man to fit him with the saddle and bit. The man mounted, pursued the wolf, and killed him.
’The horse, joyful and relieved, thanked the man and said: “Now that our enemy is dead, take off my saddle and bit and give me back my freedom.”
“Then the man burst out laughing and replied: ‘Go to hell. At a gallop!’, and spurred him on with all his might.”
The silence continued. The shadow that was Wienis did not move.”
